Ultra[violet]
Interactive installation
2026
Ultra[violet] (2025) is an interactive video installation designed by artists Eddie Lohmeyer and Zahra Asli. The video work consists of archival found footage of African Violets in bloom that has been intentionally corrupted using glitch practices. Played in loop, the footage is relayed through Hydra video synthesizer and continually mixed with a live webcam feed of participants in the gallery. Using Hydra software, the artists program interactive elements that respond to both bodily movement and sound, generating a continually unfolding kaleidoscopic effect. As participants explore the webcam interface, a microphone in the gallery records ambient sound (footsteps, conversation) and modulates the image in real-time. Exploring intersections among computational error, play, and embodiment, Ultra[violet] reinscribes digital error onto the body, imagining bodily kinesis and an engine for both destruction and regeneration, decay and bloom.
